Deodorant Allergy – What You Need To Know
Making the switch to natural deodorant is a unique experience for everyone.
Why do I say so?
Well, all of our body is different and the reaction to natural deodorant would also differ. This applies to cosmetic products which is why you always see a note that says:
Please discontinue if irritation develops.
Our deodorants are made in small batches so that you can make the switch with the lowest commitment. It also takes into consideration the possibility of you being allergic to the product.
Having said that, here are some things you need to know about deodorant allergy.
Deodorant Allergy
Deodorant allergy is a type of contact dermatitis. Its symptoms include:
skin redness
skin that appears darkened or leathery
skin that burns
extreme itching
swelling, especially in the eyes, face, or groin areas
The Cause
Deodorant allergy can be caused by ingredients in the deodorant such as:
aluminium
fragrances
dyes
preservatives
How To Prevent It?

It is best to avoid deodorants with the above ingredients. In addition, choose fragrance-free and alcohol-free deodorants to minimise any reaction.
For Smood, we avoid the use of all the above. Instead, we use the following ingredients: essential oil, coconut oil, baking soda, cassava starch, shea butter, beeswax.
However, do note that even with natural ingredients, some people might still have a reaction with the ingredients.
